Our Fante di Quadri napkin is called in the family Damina in honor of Checkers, the board game. Our grandmother Francesca, at that time a young girl, after yet another Checkers defeat by her father, came up with an inspiration. He was thoughtful, reflective and knew how to get around in life as reflected in the game; while our grandmother was impulsive, brilliant and knew how to take lessons from anything, including from a defeat. So, instead of getting upset, at the end of the game she looked at the game board made of many checkers of the same dimension but with different colors, and during the night she drew the first sketches of that game she so much enjoyed and that we now make in any color on our looms. The fabric has a strong texture and after the first washings its quality, durability and drying improve.
